Reader's Workshop Tasks

While we are actively engaged in independent reading, we can read for deeper meaning by thinking about what the author was trying to say between the lines. Often authors have a hidden message in their stories. What was the author trying to teach you that you could apply to your own life? does the author use any stereotypes in his or her story? What connections can you make - text-to-text, text-to-self, text-to-world. This is an especially important question if you are reading realistic fiction like, the Book Club who is reading the Nine Lives of Travis Keating. If you are a member of that club, don't forget to do your literature circle job!
